School Computers
Every student will have an opportunity to use the classroom computers or their own. It is the student's responsibility to make sure all work is forward when due and received by the instructor/teacher. The students may store projects on the school server but will need a portable storage device to transfer or work remotely.
Each student will have the opportunity to receive the Adobe Suite package (No Cost but must return consent form first).

#1. Understanding Gradient - Cell Phone Operations Grade / Criteria Sheet
- Focus - understanding gradient/texture
- Using editing tools on phones and their benefits and limitations
- Select 10 of your favourite texture shots (natural and man made)
- Take 2 portrait shots - from shoulder up - see the differences between photo and portrait modes
- Take two action shots
- Select one to convert to black and white
- Use your editing tools and become familiar with capabilities
- STORY - Write-up: What is texture in photography and why is it important. What did you learn about your photo
operations on your phone. What pictures did you like and why.
- Share 1 or 2 photos with class by uploading to teachers computer

i. Find appropriate typography and word of choice. Fill in the letters with one image (photo) you have taken .
ii. Personal name card using appropriate typography where you can insert personal pictures in a creative way to
show your history, interests, etc.
iii. Select a word that is powerful for you. As above, fill in the letters with your own images that help tell a story. Add a
slogan or title in a script font that helps create astory.
iv. Extending: Add texture and bonus visuals.
B - Use your creative ideas to create your own digital masterpiece using the same skills:
i. Find appropriate typography and word of choice. This can be a name, city, quote, etc. You may choose to not use
typography (test) but use silhouettes or images instead.
ii. Plan a story or idea on a paper to give you directions you know what pictures to search for and how to design your
Photoshop project.
iv. Extending: Add interesting/engaging story

#3. Understanding Typography and Creating a thematic poster

Assignment: Demonstrate what you have been learning about typography by creating a poster where the text is the artwork. You will create your text design in Adobe Illustrator and then transfer to Photoshop to complete the overall effect.

Instructions:
- Brainstorm quotes that you may want to use for your poster.
- Complete preliminary work in your sketchbook, including mind maps, lists, sketches, printed examples of typography, colour scheme ideas, etc. You must complete a final layout plan and have it approved by your teacher.
- Use Illustrator.
- Experiment with tools such as type on a path, brush tools, gradients, swatches, and manipulating text by using anchor points.
- Ensure that your final design is readable, legible, balanced, has emphasis, is visually interesting, and captures the feeling or meaning behind the quote.
- Post to your project on TEAMS with a separate document (file) your artist statement - story (refer to handout).
